Ask a TVI
How do I know if my child needs braille?
Braille decisions should not be based on visual acuity alone. Teams should look at functional access, fatigue, efficiency, reading demands, visual prognosis, literacy goals, and long-term independence.
A Learning Media Assessment can help determine whether print, large print, braille, auditory access, tactile materials, or a combination is appropriate. The question is not only what the student can see today, but how the student can access literacy efficiently over time.
